Pink Pool

This is the original painting in my pool series. When I painted it in one of Ben Smith’s classes I knew I had found what I was looking for for 20 years - my own style of painting that I’d be happy to creatively explore for years to come! When I walked in with my little board prepped in fluorescent pink paint and my drawing ready to go, I remember the look on Ben’s face and him doubtfully telling me … “I’m not sure that’s going to work” or something along those lines. Forty-five minutes later he was exclaiming to me that it “looked good already”.

I entered it in the Byron Art Prize in 2020 and it received an honourable mention - which was really lovely. I visited the show a few times and considered changing it to be not for sale, as I had decided I wanted to keep it. On the last day of the exhibition, I turned up to see it hanging one more time before collecting it the next day, and I actually cried in the gallery for about 15 minutes when I saw it had been sold!!! (Not kidding - ask Bob and the girls they were with me and had to console me). I don’t know who bought it but I hope they love it as much as I do. For all those starting out on their creative journey - learn from me and don’t sell the first painting you do that you love!!!
